Framework plan opens door for church sale

March 10, 2023 BY

One of Geelong’s most prominent highway blocks is up for sale just days after the release of transformative planning framework for the city.

A Church of Christ site at 275-279 Latrobe Terrace – at the corner of Little Myers Street – is on the market as a mixed-use development site.

The property has changed from a general residential to activity centre zone under the Central Geelong Framework Plan released last week, opening up opportunities for more intensive development.

The 2,618sqm (approx.) site has around 100 metres of street frontage including to central Geelong’s busiest road, with agents advertising its “enormous development potential”, while the bluestone church building could be repurposed into an office, residence or commercial property.

The church itself is heritage listed for its historical and architectural significance. The bluestone building was originally built in 1858 for the Free Church of England, and was later acquired by the Church of Christ in 1914.

Colliers Geelong is selling this property by expressions of interest, which close April 4.
