After working with Hotondo Homes in Ocean Grove for over four years, draftsperson Rachael and her partner Ash, decided it was time to build a dream of their own.
While Rachael knew she’d be in good hands when building with Aaron Anstis, director and builder of the local Hotondo Homes, what she didn’t expect was that the experience would provide her with an insight into her clients’ experiences.
“It was an easy decision to build with Aaron over buying, I already had the insights into the building process, I knew what would be realistic for us, and like with all his clients, Aaron was there to help and provide advice through every step of the way,” Rachael said.
“Aaron was really approachable and welcomed questions, I always knew what stage the home was at and what I could expect to come next.”
As first home buyers, Rachael and Ash were adamant on building a home that would take advantage of their beautiful acreage property, but they still had some of those challenges every first home buyer faces.
“While the building process itself was smooth and stress-free, we hadn’t quite anticipated how complex building on such a large block in a bushfire prone area was going to be.” Rachael said.
“This resulted in some additional costs and did make the process a little longer after having to get additional permits and approvals, but Aaron’s help through that took a lot of pressure away from us.”
After completing their dream home, Rachael has taken a lot of her own experience into consideration back at work.
She has even begun implementing new ideas to assist her clients when working on their homes.
“Living in my own home has given me even more ideas about areas our clients should focus on.
“From taking advantage of space and even down to the small things like the location of your dishwasher, I know what items to address that could usually be overlooked by new home buyers,” Rachael said.
“I absolutely love my new home, but if I could give one piece of advice to others looking to build, it is to spend time on your plan and remember those nitty gritty features.
“More importantly, take the time to develop a relationship with your builder.
“I can’t explain how valuable it is knowing you can trust the people building your home, and as a small business, it’s something we’re lucky enough to offer our clients.”
