Modernism, one of Metricon’s many Lookbook themes, is perfect for the coastal home

Conventional coastal home interiors often fit the cliché – a colour palette of white and blue,
cane accessories, shell-adorned mirrors and a sprinkling of nautical props for good measure!

If you’re looking for a fresh and inspired interiors theme for your coastal home, it’s time to meditate on a more modern approach.

Modernism, one of Metricon’s many Lookbook themes, is perfect for the coastal home.

Inspired by the European modernist movement from the 20th century, Modernism is a contemporary interiors scheme showcasing design principles such as ‘form follows function’ and ‘truth to materials’. In layman’s terms, this means clean lines, simple form, the use of everyday materials (timber, stone, wool, steel). The scheme also features a simple colour palette that plays on light and shade. The result is a sophisticated interior that won’t date.

Modernism has been woven through the interiors at Metricon’s Botanica 32 display home at Fyansford on the western edge of Geelong.

Simon Taylor, Metricon’s Manager, Regional West says, “Simple contemporary interiors are very much in demand. The Modernism Lookbook theme at the Botanica 32 has received very positive feedback as it’s timeless and is easy to replicate”.

What typifies the Modernism theme?
• Oak and walnut timbers.
• Raw concrete forms and black detailing.
• Muted earthy colours in olives, grey, navy, and rust.
• Furniture with a mid-20th century design aesthetic

How to recreate the Modernism look in your home When styling, opt for abstract, bold and contrasting elements.

Monochromatic, geometric prints alongside a bold colour or feature in a room work perfectly with this scheme. Contemporary artwork and indoor plants also help brighten this otherwise minimal theme, bringing interest and a pop of colour to each room.
