Significant Torquay asset to change hands

The Geelong-based consortium who built Quicksilver’s Torquay headquarters 20 years ago have sold the property at 27 Baines Crescent for an undisclosed price.

Sold by Geelong-based agents Darcy Jarman, the Baines Crescent property is leased by USowned surf giant Boardriders for the next three years and comes after the announcement to relocate their head office to the Gold Coast.

Darcy Jarman director Tim Darcy said there had been strong interest in the site.

“We had a very positive response to the EOI process with enquiry coming from both within the community and throughout the country,” Mr Darcy said. “In the end, an opportunistic buyer group from Melbourne… who have had success in the region with other sizeable assets, (bought it). We understand the vision is to retain this great asset for commercial purposes given the quality of the building, but… it would suit multiples uses.”

Surf Coast Shire chief executive officer Keith Baillie said he had discussions earlier this year about who might use the building.

“A number of months ago I highlighted the availability of the building to Regional Development Victoria, suggesting it might present an opportunity for a government department, but I have not heard anything further.”

The two-hectare site is presently leased to Boardriders for $1.6 million annually until 2021.
