WITH BRUCE AND MIKE FROM ABOUT BARBEQUES & FIREPLACES

The time has finally come!

You have put it off for the last two summers and it is now time to consign an old mate to the nature strip!

So the weekend comes and it is time to shop for the new BBQ!

To get you a little bit more informed, Bruce and Mike from about barbeques & fireplaces in Baines Cresent Torquay have put together some advice on what to look for when choosing your next Barbie.

FUEL TYPE – With so many different styles of cooking you need to consider what you want to achieve when serving up that classic BBQ spread. The predominate choice is to go with an LPG cylinder but more and more customers are now connecting their barbeques to Natural Gas. Charcoal barbeques are also on a wave of popularity so keep them in mind as well.

PERFORMANCE – This is the “Lid Up or Lid Down” area. Of course, when you’re roasting it’s Lid Down always, but who wants to always cook an amazing BBQ with the lid down? Make sure that the new BBQ can cook both ways.

CONSTRUCTION – With us living in a coastal (or close by) location what do you need the BBQ to be made of. Either full or part stainless steel? Will enamel be ok? Well all quality BBQs will stand the test of time, just like your car, you need to be mindful of the elements and still perform some routine care and maintenance.

BBQ SIZE – We don’t all cook for a grand final size party every week but at least keep that family occasion in mind. Just make sure the new unit has burner options. And don’t forget you will need a hood big enough for roasting

POWER – Most BBQs of quality now come with built in lights and 240V rotisserie options so it’s best to think about its location.

HAPPY WIFE – More and more of the girls want meat cooked outside. No more cooking smells in the house. Fact! So, don’t go light on with the options and quality. This should be a purchase that is looked at as equally as buying a new oven for inside.

AND WHAT ARE YOU COOKING
ON AT HOME?

MIKE – I have a Gasmate Galaxy 6-burner for when the family head down. And a Beefeater Bugg is a fantastic BBQ for when there is just the two of us.
BRUCE – Well I’m doing a lot of low and slow charcoal cooking on my Primo ceramic cooker now. Getting great brisket results and the grandkids love the pizza nights, plus a 4 burner Beefeater and like Mike a BUGG. You can’t get a better portable BBQ than a Bugg as well.

So, there you have a few tips. And most of all, the guys are happy for you to call in and talk “about” anything BBQs, outdoor kitchens, and even heaters for both inside and out.

Check out the Buschbeck outdoor heater while you are there! about barbeques & fireplaces is at 31 Baines Crescent Torquay (next to the pool) or visit aboutbbqs.com.au.
