Sustainable homes go on show

The Geelong region Sustainable House Day was another great success over the weekend with the unique event giving many
homeowners the chance to inspect properties that have been designed, built, or retrofitted for energy efficiency, comfort and sustainability.

Visitors chatted with experienced homeowners and joined informative tours to listen to expert technical advice from designers, builders, solar installers and product suppliers.

It’s this peer-to-peer knowledge sharing that makes Sustainable House Day such a popular and trusted community event.

This is the 10th year Geelong Sustainability has coordinated the annual event for the City of Greater Geelong with 13 properties opened to the public across Geelong and the Bellarine.

The diverse range of properties catered for all interests, from high-tech new homes, passive solar designs, compact and tiny homes, on and off grid homes, renovated older homes, a retrofit demo house and a permaculture garden featured in David Holmgren’s RetroSuburbia book. ResourceSmart School St Josephs’ College showcased their sustainability initiatives.

Event coordinator Vicki Perrett said that the weekend was a great opportunity for people to discover firsthand the economic, wellbeing and environmental benefits of sustainable living and smarter homes.
