Classic Fireplaces and Barbecues Geelong have been trading in the Geelong area since about 1975.

The shop was predominately a woodheater outlet with the Coonara brand only and a few locally manufactured barbecues.

The business was sold in 1990 to John and Jeanette Greene’s parent company Mecelec Pty Ltd, located in Hallam and at the time one of the biggest sheet metal manufacturers in Victoria.

They primarily manufactured a number of heater brand wood and gas heaters along with the Myki rail, bus and tram ticketing machines, playground equipment and poker machines for the local and overseas market. John was manufacturing director at the time.

They used the business in Geelong as an outlet for their own Jindara brand of woodheaters and barbecues.

John and Jeanette took over the shop in Geelong in 1998 as part of new direction in their careers. The business was extremely run down and needed a new direction. John and Jeanette decided to bring quality products to Geelong to allow people of Geelong the opportunity to shop locally.

Over the years, suppliers looked to them as a valuable outlet to sell their products, so Classic became a specialist dealer for all the major brands in the barbecue industry such as Weber, Beefeater, Kitchenaid, Heatlie, Big Green Egg, Hark smokers, and many outdoor electrical heating options.

On the heating side, they are specialist and premium dealers for Escea, Heat’N’Glo, Jetmaster, Coonara, Cannon, Rinnai, Masport, Osborn, Nectre, Blaze, Quadrafire, Heatilator, ADF, Stovax and a host of smaller manufacturers from local Australian industry.

Jeanette’s accounting background and John’s knowledge of heating and barbecue manufacturing have formed a formidable partnership with strong business ethics.

The company have been rewarded over the years by the people of Geelong by their support, and its staff has been trained to be knowledgeable, informative, and polite to its customers.

The business will continue with the growth within the areas of Geelong and beyond.
