Torquay’s Sunnyside Up

April 30, 2020 BY

Hayden Real Estate’s recent listing in the heart of Old Torquay truly deserves the sometimes-overused depiction “unique”.

But that is exactly what 19 Anderson Street is: unique, a one-off that will not be replicated again in Torquay.
Known as Sunnyside Up, this historic cottage that has been home to many retail uses in the past, is full of charm and character with all the comforts for a seaside get away.
Sunnyside Up was built in 1910 and used as a butchers shop with the building behind used as the slaughter house for many years and in more recent years, a craft shop.
It changed hands in the 1950s when Pat Morgan took it over to sell his surfboards making his famous surfboards from the building out the back.
Inside the cottage is one of the original Pat Morgan’s surfboards and a “surfboard wax” sign that was found in the roof of Sunnyside Up during renovations.
Selling agent Ben Smith said it was an honour to be entrusted to sell this unique home that has such a great historic significance.
“To retain the basic heritage elements of the previous small shop, and create a wonderful home, is a credit to the owners,” Mr Smith said.
“This would be perfect for those looking to live or holiday in a home that retains the character of Old Torquay’s past.
“This is truly beachside living, just a short walk to everywhere, leave the car at home and just enjoy the central position.”
The blue ribbon location is on the doorstep to the best beaches, Torquay Front Beach, Cosy Corner and the Torquay Surf Beach.
The cottage has a modern open plan living design providing ample space for the family to gather.
With bedrooms on the ground floor and on the mezzanine level, you can enjoy the charm of the 1910s abode while bringing it also into the 21st century.
Enjoy living in one of the oldest buildings in Torquay.
