GEELONG Amateur have the chance to take an unblemished record from their tough start to Bellarine Football Netball League’s senior fixture.
After taking down reigning premier Torquay by 43 points, Ammos have 2024 grand finalist Anglesea at home in Round 2 tomorrow (Saturday, April 12).
Co-coach Riley Kershaw said the team was looking forward to the challenge against a well-drilled Roos outfit and it would look to continue building on its connection.
“We had seven debutants and 12-13 different blokes (in round one) as opposed to the elimination final last year so it was a somewhat new team.”
Kershaw is working in tandem with former Richmond and Western Bulldogs forward Sam Lloyd who crossed from Deniliquin in the off-season and kicked three goals against Torquay.
“He’s a great person, he has really brought that across to the footy club, that we’re good people first and try to be good footballers second,” Kershaw said.
“Him bringing Hamish (Shepheard) as well, they’ve just been fantastic in what they’ve brought from a culture aspect.
“It’s been great working with Sam.”
Ruck recruit Shepheard, also from Deniliquin, was named Ammos’ best in the 15.15 (105) to 8.14 (62) drubbing of Torquay.
Kershaw said Amateur were monitoring Harrison Orr (hip flexor) and Jack Lang (knee complaint) this week.
The match starts at 2.10pm at Queens Park Reserve.
