Anthony ties Australian record in latest World Cup showing

SKIING superstar Jakara Anthony has equalled history following her World Cup moguls performances in Waterville, United States last weekend.

Anthony tied the Australian record for moguls World Cup wins, winning her 18th career event, an honour held only by fellow Olympic moguls champion Dale Begg-Smith.

Her most recent win was also her 10th title of the season, continuing her unmatched campaign on the World Cup circuit.

Anthony met in yet another final against American Jaelen Kauf. In a tight contest, the Barwon Heads local won her eighth-straight event of the season, 18-17.

Anthony cruised to early rounds wins in Waterville before easily winning out against American Tess Johnson 32-2 in their Semi-Final.

She also won the single moguls event the day before.

“It was really cool to come to Waterville, I haven’t been to too many brand new places on tour recently, so to come to somewhere new and experience it has been really awesome, and I love competing in the United States,” Anthony said.

Up next for Anthony is a trip to Deer Valley, Utah, the freestyle venue for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

Anthony can equal American Hannah Kearney’s record of 11 World Cup moguls wins in a single season if she can emerge victorious at the February 2-4 event.

“Deer Valley is always the highlight of the season for everyone, so really looking to that,” she said.

“They put on a good show there and it’s one of my favourite courses.

“It’s where I got my first World Cup start, my first world championship podium and I had a win there last year, so looking forward to getting back there.

“It’s been a crazy season, one win off that record set by Hannah Kearney, it’s getting close now.

“We will have to see what the rest of season brings, but I won’t be focusing on that too much.”

Anthony (600 points) sits comfortably in first in the World Cup standings for moguls and is also first in dual moguls (460 points).
