Auskick returns for Suns’ juniors

October 1, 2020 BY

The Surf Coast Suns will bring back Auskick for three more sessions.

THE Surf Coast Suns Football Netball Club is bringing Auskick back for limited sessions this month.

The club will run three Friday night clinics from October 9-23, in addition to three sessions the club hosted before the region entered into the second round of Stage Three restrictions.

Club president Michael Thomas said the club was grateful to be able to get kids back on the field.

“We’ve had lots of interest in it starting back up, so everybody’s rapt,” Thomas said.

“With the AFL season continuing it gives all the really little kids who are too young to pick up a summer sport an opportunity to get out and be active.”

Thomas also said he appreciated the readiness of Nathan Pattinson and the parent helpers to recommence the program.

Pattinson said it was exciting to see the program given a second life.

“We’ve had a few people asking throughout lockdown if we were going to get back up. We kind of thought the season was dead and buried but we’ve got a little window to continue,” said Pattinson.

“Since we’ve announced that we’ve had quite a bit of positive feedback from people letting us know their kids are really excited by it.

“It’s obviously been a pretty trying time for everyone in the community, so it’s just an opportunity to give the kids a bit of fun and give the parents the chance to relax a bit and watch their kids run around for an hour or so.”

The sessions will run from 5-6pm, with the club still waiting to see which fields they will be permitted to use.
