Barwon Heads victorious in two grand finals
IT was a great weekend for Barwon Heads Football Club as they saw their Seagals sides win the Under 18 Division 2 and the Under 15 Division 1 grand finals.
The Under 18 side reached the final in dramatic fashion.
They defeated St Mary’s, who’d finished top of the ladder, 26-22, despite having been behind for most the game.
The final proved a more straight-forward affair as they dispatched St Albans King 39-6.
Coach Harley Soall said he was overjoyed at the team’s win.
“It’s unbelievable what the girls have achieved.
“We’re a team that just kind of got thrown together this year and we formed a unity. It’s all about the team, they’re willing to play for one another, not the individual.”
Later in the day, Lara Recreation Reserve hosted the Under 15 Division 1 grand final.
Barwon Heads Seagals had a massive task in front of them, with their opposition Lara Orr, having only lost one game all season.
While they had enjoyed a strong season in their own right, the two previous times Barwon Heads Seagals had faced Lara Orr they’d been convincingly defeated.
Yet they played superbly in the final, to win 42-38.
Just as they had in the preliminary final against Torquay Boyse, Barwon Heads Seagals trailed at halftime, only to bounce back in the final two quarters to grab a dramatic victory.
