THE Bellarine Bears are winding up for a big season of baseball this year after missing the 2020 winter competition.

The Geelong Baseball Association has run a few come and try events in recent weeks, including a T-ball session for juniors of all ages earlier this month and a women’s come and try day on March 20.

The junior come and try days on March 13 and 14 were held at both Leopold and Ocean Grove, and attracted about 70 girls and boys eager to pick up a glove or swing a bat.

Plenty of coaches were on hand to teach throwing, fielding and batting, which are all useful skills regardless of what sport the children take up.

The women’s come and try day was held at Wallington Reserve. The Bears will have two women’s teams competing this year in the Geelong competition and are still looking for more recruits to join the fun.

Training for juniors is on Tuesdays at the Wallington Recreation Reserve, and started on March 16. Anyone who missed out on the come and try days is welcome to head down and join in.

The Bellarine Bears will begin their Under 16, Under 14 and Under 12 junior seasons from April 24, and will also run T-ball on Sunday mornings from May 2.
