Big game for Cougars at Christian College
A TOP-of-the-table Victorian netball clash is coming to Geelong, with the Cougars set to take on Melbourne University Lightning on Friday June 22 at Christian College.
Both teams have been sitting at the top of the table with only one loss each until last week. Geelong Cougars coach Gerard Murphy said that the last time the two teams played was in the second round of the season, where Lightning were victors after the Cougars started the game slowly and couldn’t claw back the difference.
“Both teams have a significant number of players competing in the Suncorp Super Netball feeder competition, the Australian Netball League, which shows the talent of both teams.”
Murphy said the Cougars were having their most successful season to date and were looking to turn the tables on Lightning from the round two clash.
He said a couple of players to watch out for included dynamite Cougars shooters Zanna Woods (Leopold) and Julia Woolley (Newtown), and key defender Tori Honner (St Joeys) who “has been improving week on week with turnovers and tenacious work rate”.
“This is the first game following the halfway point of the season where we now begin our rematches – Lightning have been ladder leaders for four seasons and are last year’s grand final runner-up.”
Murphy said the Lightning would be a huge test for the Cougars and a terrific spectacle awaited fans at the game.
