TORQUAY’S The Boneyard Gym had two competitors star in the Warriors Way Muay Thai Kickboxing tournament earlier this month.

Lani Williams, who runs the gym with husband Matt, won her fight unanimous decision in front of a sold out crowd.

She defeated English fighter Hadiqa Abdul and described her as a “very tough opponent”.

She said it was great to actually have other people from the gym competing along with herself.

“We’re getting some really good numbers through the door and some really good results too.

“Initially we thought people would just come and train and get fit and get healthy, and we’ve got those sort of members as well, but now we’ve got a really good fight team as well.”

One of these fighters is Daniel Stroud. He also competed in the Warriors Way competition, winning his fight by knockout in the third round.

Stroud has recently returned to fighting following a two-year break after becoming a father.

Training at the Boneyard Gym, he has managed to lose 23 kilograms in the last four months.

Matt Williams has coached him since his return and said Stroud’s dedication was incredible.

“He came to us when we opened the gym from day one and has been working really hard and been there nearly every day since.

“It was a real celebration of the time he has spent and the hard yards he has put in.”

The Boneyard Gym teaches a variety of fighting techniques to people of different ages and skills.
