Borner’s Storm aim for turnaround
BELLARINE Storm men’s team will be aiming to get back on the winners’ list when they host Shepparton tomorrow (Saturday, July 5) at 7.30pm.
The 10th-placed Storm have won one of their past five games and fell 118-95 to Keysborough on the weekend.
“We had opportunities during the game where we had got it back to four [points] and we just didn’t take the advantage. They’re sitting second on the ladder, so they’re a very good team [that is] well drilled and well-rehearsed, and we just couldn’t match their firepower,” coach Ray Borner said.
The new mentor, who took up the reins about a month ago, said he was getting to know the players better and they were learning his style of coaching.
He said he was enjoying the challenge.
“I love it and I enjoy the fellowship of the players and the group that immediately surrounds the group.
“I’m just disappointed that we’re not able to perform to the best of our ability week-in, week-out.
“And that’s disappointing not only for myself, but the players.
“But to me, it’s disappointing for the Bellarine community because there’s a lot of people within the community that are putting a lot of effort into fielding, not only our team, but the ladies team as well.
“And we want to perform so that we give them the respect for the time that they’re put into the program.”
He said the focus against Shepparton would be defence as the Storm are scoring well.
The Storm women are on top of the championship ladder with a 13-2 record.
They beat Warrnambool 79-47 last weekend and will host Pakenham tomorrow at 5.30pm before welcoming Sherbrooke on Sunday at 12 noon.
