GEELONG is fresh off the back of a thrilling three-point victory over the then ladder-leading Magpies, solidying its position in the top eight on the AFL ladder.

The Cats prevailed in one of the most dramatic finishes to a game in recent history, with both sides going back and forth into the dying moments.

Collingwood had a chance to snatch victory after the siren, but Jack Crisp dragged his goal kick wide to hand the Cats a famous victory.

Patrick Dangerfield dominated in the centre and around the ground, grabbing 29 disposals, 17 of which were contested.

Bailey Smith (34 possessions) continued his stellar start to the season, while Shaun Mannagh and Sam De Koning were also cited among Geelong’s best.

Cats coach Chris Scott said he was incredibly pleased with his side’s effort.

They Collingwood are really good at what they do. A big part was taking away their strengths as much as possibly because if they do have the game played their way, they have some really nice ball users and they are prepared to use those skills.

“We worked hard to arrest that, did a pretty good job but if you play safe against them and don’t make them defend, you are likely to get beaten.

“I think what I admire about our players at the moment, it is not just in this moment but it has been going on for a while; they hang in.”

This Sunday, May 11, the Cats will be at home at GMHBA Stadium against the GWS Giants

The matchup between the two top eight sides is sure to be a beauty based on recent history.

The past two games between the sides have been decided by under 7 points, with the Giants narrow victors on both occasions.

Geelong will need to fire both offensively and defensively if it is to get past a Giants side who will likely be breathing fire after three consecutive losses.

The match will begin at 3.20pm and be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Footy and Kayo.
