Cats record strong weekend across the board

After winning the toss, the Cats elected to bowl first on their home deck at Kardinia Park and knocked the Magpies out for just 146 runs in the 56th over.
Wickets were evenly spread across the attack, with skipper Joshua Larkin needing less than five overs to take four wickets. Lachlan Neate and Kieren Helwig also took two wickets.
For Camberwell, Liam Fitzpatrick top scored with 56 runs from 120 balls.
Geelong then faced 40 overs with the bat, posting a solid score of 3/137 at stumps thanks to opener Nathan Caulfield making 83 not out.
He and Lachie Field will return to the wicket for day two this Saturday, October 18 looking to continue the solid innings and secure their second consecutive win to start the year.
The Men’s Premier Seconds face an uphill battle heading into day two, after the Magpies batted all day and posted 8/409 from 96 overs.
The Thirds finished day one at 5/325 from 80 overs thanks to 101 runs from Tom Courtney and a whopping 130 from Liam Biddiscombe, while the Fourths finished the day at 9/269.
In the Women’s Premier Firsts T20 competition, Geelong held off Ringwood by six runs to win their first match.
The Seconds also knocked off Prahran, chasing down their total of 104 in 17 overs, and the Thirds defended their impressive score of 7/146 to beat Box Hill by 61 runs.
