THE Geelong Football Club has hit a new club membership record, reaching 66,570 as of late last month.

This number surpasses the Cats’ previous membership record of 66,560 in 2019.

The record membership figure includes 1,964 AFLW members, a significant increase from 1,575 in 2020.

“The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the AFL industry significantly in 2020. It severely impacted our club, but the unwavering support of our members was outstanding,” Geelong chief executive officer Brian Cook said.

“It is that support that has seen the club emerge in a sound and strong position.

“To have now reached a membership record, after all that the community has endured throughout the past 14 months is a testament to each and every member of our club.

“Thank you for your continued support and passion.

“A grand final berth in 2020, football’s return to GMHBA Stadium for the 2021 AFLW season and our continued work to give back to the community has seen 66,570 sign on as members but we are not done yet.

“We hope to see this number continue to grow as the season continues.”
