TRAVIS Boak has made his long-awaited return to local football, but it wasn’t the fairytale game Torquay hoped.
Boak ran out for his junior club wearing his father’s number in round 2 of the Bellarine Football League.

Boak was a key player in the Tigers’ final quarter push, but the home side were unable to get over Queenscliff in their first home game of the year at their newly redeveloped oval. The loss came on the back of one of the biggest wins in the league’s recent history.

Queenscliff were on top early, keeping the Tigers goalless in two terms to earn the 11.18 (84) to 10.9 (69) win in wet and windy conditions felt across the region.
Queenscliff junior Jordan Monahan had a field day in front of goal, adding another four to his season tally, bringing him to 11 goals in just two weekends.

After bowing out of the 2025 premiership race with a 42-point loss to eventual premiers Anglesea, Queenscliff are determined to push further this season.
Head coach Heath Jamieson admitted he was disappointed with the cohort’s 2025 finals series and is focusing on finals football this year.

Heavy recruiting in the off-season has paid off early, with the club now sitting at the top of the ladder.
Meanwhile, newcomers Surf Coast Suns secured a 17-point win to earn their first premiership points in club history.
The Suns were disappointed in their first outing of the year but four goals to Luke Catelli and Tommy Stephen put the side in good stead for a fourth quarter comeback over Portarlington.

Heading into the fourth quarter 17 points down, the Suns more than doubled their score in the fourth quarter to sing their song for the first time.
Drysdale’s lacklustre start to the year continued thanks to a 26-point loss to Geelong Amateurs.

Ocean Grove’s start to the year went from bad to worse when Modewarre ran over them to a 76-point win.
Tom Hornsey kicked seven for the home side, including the opening goal of the game during a scoreless first term for Ocean Grove.
The game of the round was played at Ellimatta Reserve, where a goal in the dying seconds was still not enough to get Newcomb up over Anglesea.

Heading into the final term 27 points down, the Power held the ‘Roos to a single goal in the final term but it wasn’t enough.
The reigning premiers now sit fourth on the ladder on percentage, with four teams on the maximum eight points heading into round 3.
In the netball, Newcomb head into round 3 yet to score a goal this year.

Power had a bye in round 1 and were kept scoreless by Anglesea on Saturday afternoon.
Three clubs remain undefeated, with Geelong Amateurs, Torquay and Ocean Grove all winning for a second week in a row.
Portarlington won their first game of the season over Surf Coast Suns.
Barwon Heads had the bye.
