Cricket round-up: Anglesea and Inverleigh remain undefeated

November 14, 2019 BY

The BPCA managed to get through their matches despite weather threatening to spoil the day.

WHILE turgid conditions on Saturday saw washouts across the GCA, the BPCA was still able to continue on its carpet wickets.

Anglesea remain the A1 Grade’s dominant side, with their nine-wicket win over Jan Juc ensuring they remain unbeaten.

Their bowling attack performed superbly once again. Dale Kerr’s 4/23 sees him move five wickets clear at the top of the leading wicket-taker chart with 15 in total.

Yet Kerr has been well-supported, as like Kerr, as Anglesea have taken 15 more wickets that any other side.

With Jan Juc bowled out for 130, Anglesea’s Ned Cooper and Ashley Poulton clinically chased down the runs with more than ten overs remaining.

A narrow win for second-placed Ocean Grove ensures they remain just six points off Anglesea.

Collendina batted well to reach 3/222, with Kade Norquay, Ben Ricardo and Max Sutton all making half-centuries.

No Ocean Grove player reached 50, but contributions throughout meant they were able to reach their target with just nine deliveries and three wickets to spare.

Barrabool’s 27 run victory over Barwon Heads sees the two teams now level on 15 points.

Similar to Ocean Grove, they relied on a series of contributions to set Barwon Heads a target of 180.

Barrabool’s Kane Pickering showed his allround skills, following up his 137 in the previous round by taking 4/25.

Queenscliff join Barrabool and Barwon Heads on 15 points after producing a brilliant bowling performance to defeat Portarlington.

Queenscliff were bowled out for 130, having at one stage been 5/27. Yet they soon had Portarlington all out for 55, with Blake Dobbin’s unbeaten 24 the only thing saving his side from complete capitulation.

Ned Rogerson excelled with the ball, taking 5/10 in his first match of the season. Shane Healy was similarly brilliant, taking 4/10.

In A2 Grade Drysdale came desperately close to ending Inverleigh’s perfect start, with Inverleigh stealing a two-wicket victory off the penultimate ball.

Inverleigh club president and C2 Grade captain Marcus Warton said the club’s success this season was the result of a number of years work, and that they were continuing to aim for long-term success.

“The junior develop over the last decade or so has really helped us.”

“Hopefully down the track we can get a third team again. But the biggest aim at the minute is to get the A Grade back into division 1.”

Little River and St Leonards both earned victories to stay second and third respectively, with St Leonards and Inverleigh set to meet next week.
