The Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association (BCPA) held its second round of games on the weekend.

Even this early on it is unlikely the season will see many better individual performances than that of Anglesea’s Dale Kerr on Saturday.

Jan Juc took a surprise win over Ocean Grove in the opening round and then seemed to be on track to defeat the other of last season’s grand finalists, when they bowled Anglesea out for 111.

Kerr top-scored for Anglesea with 34, but his bowling turned the game with 7/30 as Jan Juc fell for just 100.

He was the leading wicket-taker in the league last year and has also been asked to try out for the Victorian Country Team.

Kerr said while he was excited, he just wanted to focus on continuing his good form.

“It’d be a great honour if I could make a team like that.

“I bowled not too bad. Hopefully I can just keep carrying that on through the rest of the season.”

Defeating Jan Juc ensures Anglesea start the season with two wins from two – the only other team to have managed this is Barwon Heads, who defeated Barrabool by 84 runs at RT Fuller Oval.

Lewis Highland bounced back from making a duck in the opening round to top-score for Barwon Heads with 79. Sam Schaller then took 3/8 in his eight overs to help Barwon Heads secure a comfortable victory.

Elsewhere in the BPCA, Ocean Grove took only 23.5 overs to track down the target of 150 that Collendina had set them. Shaun Fankhauser’s unbeaten 85 helped the title-holders get their first win of the season after losing on the opening day.

Queenscliff were similarly clinical in chasing down Portarlington’s 155. Michael Farrell showed his all-round capabilities, taking 2/10 in his eight overs for Queenscliff, having scored 59 on the opening weekend.

In the Geelong Cricket Association (GCA) Second Division Firsts, Torquay secured a 49-run win over Highton having also won on the opening day of the season.

Dale McDonald followed up his century from last week by scoring 55. Thomas Dunn made 59 and Ash Russell made 64 to set Highton a target of 233.

Having top-scored, Russell then also excelled with the ball. He tore through Highton’s tail to finish with 5/27.

In Division 1 of the GCA, North Geelong set Leopold the formidable task of chasing 276, after opener Sam Hall’s 150. Leopold made a decent attempt at chasing the imposing target, with captain Corey Ogle making a 94-ball 83. However they were bowled out for 216.
