AFLW PREMIERSHIP captain Daisy Pearce has been locked in as an ambassador for the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) People’s Ride in next year’s Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.

She will jump on her bike alongside Cadel Evans and thousands of eager cyclists this summer.

The three-time All-Australian was a star in the AFLW, inspiring women and young girls across the country to take up football.

Despite hanging up her boots in 2022, Pearce has become one of the most significant voices in football as a respected commentator and now resides in Geelong as part of the coaching and development team at the Geelong Cats.

A keen cyclist and mother to twins Sylvie and Roy, Peace is thrilled to be joining the ride on her local roads and has put the callout for women and girls across Victoria to join her on the bike.

Setting her sights on the 113km course – which includes the famed Challambra climb – Pearce can’t wait to challenge herself and pedal the same roads as the UCI teams as part of a jam-packed weekend of cycling.

“Cycling is something I have always enjoyed and really gotten into recently,” she said.

“Plus my kids are obsessed so I’m thrilled to be the 2024 TAC People’s Ride ambassador.

“I want to see more women and girls getting out on their bikes and finding ways to keep active.

“The TAC People’s Ride is the perfect way to set a new training goal, socialise with your friends and stay safe on the roads.

“It’s wonderful to see the region transform as the world’s best descend on our roads, I can’t wait to join thousands of others and ride alongside Cadel Evans.”

TAC chief executive officer Tracey Slatter said she was looking forward to welcoming attendees to the ride.

“The People’s Ride is an important opportunity for the TAC to engage with the cycling community and talk about how all road users can work together to keep our roads safe.”

“We are thrilled to have Daisy Pearce as the Ambassador for the TAC People’s Ride and we look forward to promoting road safety throughout an exciting weekend of festivities.”

With a selection of 59km and 113km distances, the People’s Ride provides the chance for riders of all abilities to ride on the same roads as the pros.

The TAC People’s Ride will take place on January 27, 2024.
