LORNE Netball Club will be well represented at tomorrow’s (Saturday, September 20) CDNL grand finals, with both their D Grade and Under-15 sides to feature at Central Reserve.
The Dolphins’ D Grade team has reached the ultimate game of the season from fifth place and will take on the top seeded Colac Imperials. Meanwhile the Under-15s will take on the Western Eagles.
Club president Carly Enticott explained the significance of reaching the grand final for both sides.
“It is fantastic for our club to have two netball teams competing on Grand Final Day,” she said.
“Our Under-15 team has a core group of girls who have been playing since NetSetGo in kinder together, with the addition of some new families who now call Lorne home. They have been well-guided and led by Victoria Jewell and Sam Briggs in the first year of coaching.
“This year is the first time our club has fielded a D Grade team, with plenty of familiar faces returning to the court for the social aspect, as well as developing our younger players.”
Enticott said the Dolphins focused on depth and development to create a strong and coherent netball program.
“We have certainly had a focus this year to develop the depth of our club with the introduction of some key players to our A Grade team.
“Having the enthusiasm and determination filter down the teams has been a big factor in the success and the work of building a welcoming and nurturing environment.
“It has certainly created a fun and vibrant atmosphere at the club to have juniors and seniors in the Grand Final, although our playlists at training are slightly different!”
Should either or both sides win this weekend, Enticott said it would be a great reward for effort. “It would be enormous.
“We have two mother and daughter combinations playing on Saturday in their respective games, it highlights the dedication and passion for the club over the years.”
Both matches will start at 9.20am.
