EAST Geelong and North Geelong will battle for the 2025 GDFL seniors grand final this weekend, with both sides keen to break premiership droughts.

The Eagles have reached their first Grand Final in 13 years after recent struggles in the postseason, including straight sets exits in 2022 and 2024. They will look to break a 16-year stint without a flag.

Meanwhile, the Magpies are in their first Grand Final in a decade and last won the premiership in 2013.

The huge clash at St Albans Reserve comes after East Geelong beat Bell Post Hill by 38 points in the Preliminary Final to set up the clash with the side they lost to just a fortnight ago in the Second Semi-Final.

After a week off, the Magpies will enter the matchup rested and ready to go, looking to beat the Eagles for the fourth time this year.

On the other side of the ledger, East Geelong will be well aware that despite their recent losing record, it all goes back to square one in a Grand Final.

Despite suffering a facial fracture in his 100th match last weekend, long-sleeved wingman Sam Lowe is expected to suit up and will be crucial for the Eagles. Forward Zac Smith, who has kicked 59 goals this year, will also play an important role.

For the Magpies, midseason recruit Osca Riccardi’s speed and precision will prove key if they are to break their premiership drought. They will also lean on veteran Luke Parker, who played in their most recent flag in 2013.

East Geelong will play Werribee Centrals in the reserves Grand Final at 11.45am, which will be played ahead of the seniors game at 2.15pm.
