AFTER a BFL seniors home and away season that went right down to the wire, the finals are upon us and the real contest begins at Portarlington Recreation Reserve.

Geelong Amateur had a shock loss to Newcomb in Round 18, however it did not affect their position on top of the ladder. They now have the first week off and will look to reset after a disappointing end to the regular season.

Torquay and Queenscliff will face off for the second time in three weeks in tomorrow’s (Saturday, August 23) Qualifying Final, this time on a neutral ground. The winner will face the Ammos, while the loser will take on the winner of the Elimination Final.

The Coutas have had the better of the Tigers in their two clashes this season, despite being the lower-ranked side of the matchup.

If they defeat the reigning premiers again, the Coutas will edge one step closer to their first flag in 13 years.

Sunday’s Elimination Final will see Drysdale take on Anglesea. The Hawks lost to Barwon Heads, who were vying for fifth spot, in Round 18. The Roos, on the other hand, drew with Queenscliff and gave themselves a shot to go one better in 2025 after last season’s Grand Final loss.

The two sides won one game each in their two matchups during the year. The Roos prevailed by one straight kick in a Round 1 nail-biter, but the Hawks then avenged their loss convincingly when they played again in Round 12.

There is plenty more on the line this time around, with the loser being eliminated and the winner taking on either Torquay or Queenscliff in a Semi-Final next week.
