ANGLESEA

» Fishing conditions are poor due to weather conditions over the past week
» Salmon are still being caught off local beaches
» Pinkies are still around but still few and far between
» The occasional whiting is being caught
» The odd gummy shark has been reported in the area.

BARWON HEADS

» Mulloway being reported again in the river
» Some snapper being caught offshore
» A few trevally are also being caught in the river
» Salmon still being caught off the beaches.

TORQUAY

» Still reports of a few King George whiting being reported in close
» Reports of pinkies and snapper appearing
» Some flathead offshore in deeper water
» Salmon reports off most local beaches
» Gummy shark catches have been reported
» Still some nice bream in Spring Creek.

QUEENSCLIFF

» St Leonards has reports of King George whiting, flathead and squid in numbers
» Clifton Springs is still seeing reports of whiting, flathead and squid catches
» Queenscliff has whiting, flathead, pinkies and squid continuing to be reported
» The creek is said to be producing some small trevally and salmon
» Swan Bay is still seeing reports of a squid, whiting and a few garfish being caught at the entrance
» Point Lonsdale has reports of trevally and salmon
» The White Lady is seeing whiting and squid still being caught
» Indented Head has reports of flathead, King George whiting and squid continuing.

ANGLERS and seafood lovers celebrating National Gone Fishing Day on Sunday October 14 need look no further than Portarlington for a family-friendly day on the Bellarine Peninsula.

Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville said the free ‘Hooked on Bellarine’ event will have something for everyone including the chance to hear from the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s (VFA) newest ambassador Bachar Houli from the Richmond Football Club.

Bachar is a keen angler and regularly takes his own boat out with friends and family to explore Victoria’s bays and inlets in search of fresh fish.

Hosted by the VFA with support from Bellarine Bayside Coastal Management, the event is funded through the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan, which is investing a record $46 million to get more people fishing, more often.

Sam Goodwin from Masterchef will be showing off his cooking skills with tasty seafood recipes that everyone can try at home featuring Portarlington-grown mussels and fresh fish.

Aaron Habgood from Reel Adventures will be on hand to share fishing tips and secrets on catching more snapper, King George whiting and gummy shark, all fantastic eating species on the dinner table.

For the kids, expert anglers from local fishing clubs will be providing free instruction through several ‘come and try’ clinics on the day. Everything is provided!

Other ‘Hooked on Bellarine’ attractions include:
• Stands selling freshly cooked seafood and locally made produce, including blue mussels which Portarlington is famous for
• Dr Corey Green from the VFA on research about snapper, King George whiting and calamari
• Kristina Royter providing fly casting instruction
• Kids amusements and activities
• Local market stalls
• Tables and chairs to relax and enjoy the waterfront views.

SCHOOL HOLIDAY TROUT BONANZA

Families can look forward to making the most of spring these school holidays with more than 30,000 catchable size rainbow trout stocked into almost 80 waters state-wide.

Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford said the stockings were thanks to fishing licence fees and the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan – which is investing a record $46 million to get more people fishing, more often.

Rainbow trout are a great species for children and beginners because they’re easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures. Stocked family fishing waters provide the perfect opportunity for those new to fishing to give it a go.

Waters to be stocked these school holidays include, St Augustine’s Water Hole in Geelong, Bannockburn Lagoon (Bannockburn) Albert Park Lake, Eildon Pondage, Cobden Lake (Cobden) Lethbridge Lake (Lethbridge) Karkarook Lake in Moorabbin, Lilydale Lake, Morwell Lake, Hyland Lake in Churchill, Pakenham Lake Kennington Reservoir, Darlingsford Lake in Melton, Pertobe Lake and Rowville Lakes.

For the full state-wide list visit vfa.vic.gov.au/holidaytrout. A daily bag limit of five trout applies to the family fishing lakes, of which only two trout can exceed 35 centimetres.
