Former Supercat skipper signs with Storm
A WELL-known regional basketballer and a former Geelong United Supercats captain will head down the Bellarine Highway in 2024.
New Bellarine Storm senior men’s player Liam McInerney is set to don a lighter shade of blue in the Big V Championship next season, after the club announced its newest signing last weekend.
Storm head coach Luke Beauglehall, who led Bellarine to a 3-18 record during its first year in the Championship division, said McInerney would bring a wealth of knowledge to the side.
“Liam is a fantastic signing for the club, he’s had a great career in SEABL/NBL1 over the last 11 years and that experience will be a massive advantage for the club.
“Liam is the exact type of person we want around the Storm family and he’s already starting to show his leadership skills and basketball IQ both on and off the court.
“[I’m] really looking forward to working with the squad we have put together for next season.”
In August, McInerney learned he would not be offered an NBL1 contract at Geelong United in 2024.
He took on a minimal role in 2023 under new Supercats head coach Grant Wallace, averaging 1.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, while shooting 47.6 per cent from the field.
A seasoned veteran in Australia’s second tier basketball competition, McInerney has also logged 226 career games across the former SEABL competition and the current NBL1 structure.
McInerney said he hoped to guide the Storm to bigger and better results in 2024.
“I’m excited to be joining the Bellarine Storm as we push for major steps in Big V State Championship and beyond.
“I look forward to once again sharing my ability, experience and leadership both on and off the court and to be a part of developing this team and the younger generation of this Club into something great.”
