THERE is no better time in football than the closing weeks of a season.

Across the world, every match suddenly feels like it carries the weight of an entire year. Whether it’s a relegation battle, a promotion push or a finals series where the ultimate prize is within reach, this is the stage of the season where football delivers its greatest drama.

Most Australians have a strong attraction to the Premier League, and this season the title race and survival battle are both coming down to the wire.

At the top of the table, Arsenal and Manchester City are locked in an incredible battle that could ultimately be decided by goal difference. Every point, every goal and every moment suddenly feels magnified.

At the other end, the fight for survival is just as compelling. Clubs with enormous histories and expectations are feeling the pressure that comes with trying to remain in the world’s toughest league.

It’s a type of drama we aren’t accustomed to in Australia, but one that captures supporters’ hearts and minds right until the final whistle of the season.

I used to love this point of the year as a player.

The tension shifts from the terraces into the dressing room. Training grounds feel different. Every conversation carries more meaning. Whichever end of the table you’re sitting at, there is pressure everywhere you go.

Financially and culturally, staying in the Premier League changes everything. That’s why great escapes become part of football folklore.

I was fortunate enough to experience one firsthand with Fulham F.C. during the club’s incredible survival battle in the 2007–08 season.

I still remember how intense those final weeks were. Every training session mattered. Every game felt enormous. You stop looking too far ahead and focus only on the next challenge in front of you.

What Roy Hodgson and that Fulham group achieved remains one of the great Premier League survival stories. Written off by many, the club somehow found momentum and belief when it mattered most.

Those experiences teach you something powerful about sport: momentum and belief can completely transform a season.

Closer to home, the A-Leagues finals series has now begun. While we don’t yet have promotion and relegation in Australia, the intensity still rises dramatically at this time of year.

Form suddenly becomes less important. Finals football is about moments, mentality and handling pressure. Clubs with strong cultures and players who have experienced big occasions often find a way to rise when the stakes are highest. That’s what makes this period in football so special.

In every league around the world, everything suddenly matters more. The pressure is rising, emotions are high and it’s at the forefront of most sport lovers’ discussions.

It’s the stage where careers can be defined, clubs can create history, and supporters live every second alongside their team. Whether your team is involved or not, enjoy the ride.

See you on the pitch,

Coach Ado
