FROM THE MAT

The 2018-19 home and away season has finished. Torquay is playing finals in three divisions in Saturday Pennant and in two divisions in Midweek Pennant.

Congratulations to all sides making finals on this terrific achievement for the club.

Saturday Pennant Finals
Division 1 had a 28 shot loss to Ocean Grove ending their 2019 campaign. Daryl Kitchin’s rink was the only shining light winning by 8 shots.

Division 6 travelled to Eastern Park and had a 10 shot victory over Ocean Grove. Lindsay Harrington’s rink had an impressive 8 shot win to get the side across the line.

Division 9 played at Barwon Heads and had a brilliant 6 shot victory after trailing for most of the afternoon. Don Mariager’s rink lead the way with a 7 shot win.

Midweek Pennant
Division 1 had a thrilling one shot loss to City of Geelong bringing an end to their season. Karen Harrington’s rink had a 7 shot win, but it was not enough to see another week of finals action. Division five have already qualified for the Grand Final, with a 14 shot win over Bannockburn a week earlier.

Lou Crameri Medal
Saturday Pennant bowlers gathered on Tuesday evening the 5th of March 2019 for the Lou Crameri Medal presentation, an award for the most consistent bowler for 2018/19. Torquay Bowls President, Alan Murphy started the count from 25th place, reaching the winner, Karen Harrington, with a total vote score of 364, 12 points clear of Gary Banks in second place. The Crameri family attended the function to present the medal and represent the late Lou Crameri, whose dedication to coaching and encouragement is remembered with the annual medal award.
