JUNIOR golfers, strong stableford scoring and fog-affected mornings featured across another busy week of competition at Curlewis, The Sands, Anglesea and Torquay.

Curlewis hosted a Junior TeeMates event on Sunday 10 May, highlighted by a hole-in-one from member Lachie Halloran on the 8th hole.

Southern Golf Club’s Grace Yang claimed the girls title with a four-under 69, finishing ahead of Curlewis member Paige Moorfoot on 71, while Victoria Golf Club’s Ben Ellul won the boys event with a three-under 68.

The stableford section for developing golfers also produced a remarkable score, with Evelyn Jiang posting 60 points to comfortably win her division.

Back in club competition play, Curlewis members embraced “Choose Your Tee” events throughout the week.

Carol Newby made the most of the format on Saturday 16 May, moving back to the white tees and producing a standout 46 points. Young member Mathena Chan also impressed during Thursday’s women’s competition, taking on the black tees and winning with 44 points.

Fog disrupted parts of the week, with Tuesday’s nine-hole competition and Wednesday morning’s men’s field cancelled due to delays.

At The Sands, Monday 11 May’s medley stableford was won by Taylor Raunik (7) on 37 points on countback from Scott Irvine.

Wednesday’s four-ball aggregate stableford produced a tight finish, with Tony Serrao and Nicholas Berryman combining for 75 points to edge Michael Seehusen and Jeff Treloar by one.

Michael Seehusen also impressed individually on Wednesday, posting 41 points to win the white tees stableford ahead of Nigel Sullivan on 40.

Friday 15 May featured some of the week’s best scoring, with Craig McShane (8) winning A-grade with 42 points and Luke Laretive (17) taking B-grade with 40.

Saturday’s stableford competitions saw Pete O’Loughlin (25) lead the way with 41 points in C-grade, while Trent Walerys (7) and Shane Collins (14) both won their divisions with 38 points.

Noel Bray (24) claimed the women’s event with 35 points on countback.

At Anglesea, Wednesday 13 May’s men’s stableford saw Geoffrey Fisken (31) post 40 points to win overall, while David Picken (22) won C-grade with 35 points.

Thursday’s women’s fourball stableford produced a close finish, with Heather Nancarrow and Lesly McMaster winning on 44 points on countback from Marg Lacey and Jo Murray.

Saturday 16 May’s men’s ambrose stableford was won by Sean McGrath, Josh Vagg, Michael Noonan and Timothy Vagg with 56.875, while Warren Pollock, Paul Manson, Jim Dickson and Hans Schneider finished second on 57.875.

Sunday’s par competition saw Craig Daffy (12) win the men’s event with +2 on countback, while Marcey Nowell (34) claimed the women’s competition at square.

Torquay’s weekly wrap again produced strong scoring across all grades.

Tuesday 12 May’s women’s stableford featured Lyn Brady (18) and Robyn Venn Corr (26) both posting 42 points to win A and B-grade respectively.

Wednesday 13 May saw Wayne Richard (6) edge A-grade on countback with 39 points, while Shaun Murphy (15) won B-grade with 38. Eagles were recorded by Bob Hayles and Dom Melville-Thompson.

Thursday 14 May delivered another flurry of birdies and eagles, with Zac Ford (3) winning the men’s stableford on 46 points and four eagles recorded across the field.

Saturday 16 May produced some of the week’s tightest finishes, with Tim Sinnott (6) and Brett Allen (9) both winning their grades on countback. Di Barker (25) led the women’s field with 43 points.

Sunday 17 May’s Par competition wrapped up the week, with Samuel Price (16) winning the men’s division on +7, while Tracy Ansombe (39) claimed the women’s event on countback.
