Grubbers to face Torquay for spot in Grand Final
GEELONG Amateur are the first team into the BNL A Grade Grand Final after overcoming old rivals Ocean Grove at Portarlington Reserve.
The Ammos, who have played the Grubbers in the past three Grand Finals, prevailed by seven points after a strong second half.
Ocean Grove have a second chance and can keep their back-to-back premiership aspirations as they face Torquay in this weekend’s Preliminary Final at Grinter Reserve.
The fifth-placed Tigers upset the third-placed Queenscliff in the Semi-Final on Sunday, prevailing by one point in a thriller.
Despite an almighty Coutas comeback that saw them outscore Torquay by nine points in the second half, the Tigers hung on to keep their dream run alive.
Whilst this weekend’s Preliminary Final matchup between the Grubbers and the Tigers is second against fifth on paper, the teams will be a lot tighter than it seems when they line up tomorrow (Saturday, September 6).
The two faced off just three weeks ago in round 18, where Ocean Grove escaped with a two-point victory despite Torquay leading at the final change. Back in Round 10, the Grubbers won by just three points when they played.
