Highton Durran win thriller as finals approach
THE inaugural season of the GCA’s women’s division is nearing its end, but the ladder is still far from being decided.
Highton Durran managed victory in an exceptionally close game against East Belmont Razz, winning by a single run.
Monique Quinn’s 35 and Kisara De Alwis’s unbeaten 32 helped Highton Durran to a total of 7/128.
Jessica Johnston led the chase for East Belmont Razz, top-scoring with 41.
But the wickets fell throughout their innings, with Quinn following up her performance with the bat by taking 4/28.
Emma Jondahl finished with figures of 2/13, with her wicket in the final over giving Highton Durran the win.
They will head in to the last match-day before finals with two teams only three points behind them and one team just three points ahead of them.
Torquay Black move up into third place in the league as Leopold had to forfeit.
Torquay Women’s Cricket co-ordinator Sarah Boak said the new league had been fantastic for the club.
“It’s been a fantastic season. We’ve had so much interest and the way it’s progressed we’ve had more and more interest feeding through.
“I think it’s really developed women’s cricket and is certainly going to be a really positive move for the future.”
East Belmont Deb came close to ending Ocean Grove’s unbeaten run.
Alana Kot retired not out on 42 as Ocean Grove posted a formidable target of 6/148.
But East Belmont Deb’s opening batters made a brilliant start, with Chrissy Walker and Rebecca Farey posting an 82-run partnership.
Ocean Grove were ruthless though, and eventually ran through the rest of East Belmont Deb’s batting order to see them finish 9/123.
