Huxtable finished fifth in Newcastle and is fired up for his trip to South Africa.

JAN JUC surfer Xavier Huxtable is fired up for the first trip overseas on his maiden WSL Challenger Series.

Huxtable will fly out to South Africa to compete in the Ballito Pro next week alongside fellow locals Tully Wylie and Ellie Harrison.

The 23-year-old is fresh off a quarterfinal finish at the first event of the 2025 Challenger Series, claiming fifth spot at the Burton Automotive Newcastle Surfest.

Huxtable was defeated by eventual winner Jacob Wilcox in a see-sawing affair.

“I’m feeling amazing after Newcastle, it was such an awesome event with amazing waves. I was stoked to find some great waves through the heats and put them together,” he said.

At the time of writing, Huxtable was competing in the Krui Pro in Indonesia and had made his way into the semi-finals.

He hoped to keep this strong momentum going when he heads to South Africa.

“I’m over in Indonesia at the moment for an event, which has been super fun,” he said.

“This place has amazing waves so I’ve just been surfing a heap and trying boards and preparing for South Africa.

“It looks like an amazing part of the world and I can’t wait to explore it all.”

Huxtable said he hoped to have fun during his first full year on the Challenger Series and lap all the new experiences that it brings.

“I just want to really enjoy my year travelling with my mates and put together some more good heats whilst exploring the new countries.”

The Ballito Pro starts on June 30.
