Jan Juc and Queenscliff continue excellent form

Late into 2019 Queenscliff looked like one of the likeliest among the top six to fall away. But their win over Barrabool on the weekend means they have now won four of their last five matches and move into fourth.

It was a close game, though, as Queenscliff took a three-wicket win with just five deliveries remaining.

No player managed to truly get on top of the other team, as there were no fifties made, and no bowler took more than two wickets.

The victory also pushed Barwon Heads out of the top four, as they were surprisingly beaten by Portarlington.

Portarlington went into the match still searching for their first win of the season. However, their dominant performance shows the team’s future may be brighter.

They finished on 213 as an in from Dean Deluca smashed 72.

Deluca shared a 91-run partnership with Cameron Chisholm, who then went on to take 4/39 as Barwon Heads were bowled out for 129.

Jan Juc move up to second place as they comfortably defeated Collendina to secure their fourth consecutive win.

Jan Juc used just five bowlers, with all taking wickets to see Collendina fall for 102.

Iva Priest and Ryen Smith then shared an unbeaten partnership of 81 that saw Jan Juc to an eight-wicket win.

Ocean Grove came close to holding onto second place as they faced Anglesea.

They posted 180 in their 40 overs, despite Brett Venables taking 3/26.

But Anglesea once again showed their depth, as a series of contributions meant Anglesea took a five-wicket win with two overs remaining.

Surf Coast and Bellarine sides struggled in the first week of two-day matches in the GCA.

In Division 1 Leopold will have to chase down 285 on Saturday to beat Bell Post Hill.

Modewarre have a similarly imposing task in Division 2, as they will need to make 300 to defeat Bell Park.

Torquay were bowled out for 72 by Geelong City’s formidable attack, with the latter then finishing the day at 5/83.
