JAN Juc Boardriders Club are feeling primed for a strong showing against the state’s best clubs at today’s (October 6) Australian Boardriders Battle state qualifying event at Phillip Island.

Club president Mitch Mee said the club was embracing the challenge of taking it up to the dominant Torquay Boardriders.

“We are feeling really good about our team heading into the event. It’s really stacked. We bat really deep in terms of our open men’s and women’s surfers, our seniors and the juniors.

“It was super encouraging to come away with our best teams result ever, a second at the Victorian Teams Titles only a few weeks ago.

“Torquay and Phillip Island have both been super successful for so long, and I guess there’s maybe this expectation they will win.

“We feel there is pressure on us, it’s more on those bigger clubs. We hope to go in and get the win!”

At least six clubs are slated to compete in the event, with the top three locking in a spot at the National Final in Burleigh Heads in March 2025.

Phillip Island, Peninsula Surfriders, 13th Beach and Bass Coast Boardriders are among the clubs competing.

Torquay Boardriders will be hoping to take home back-to-back ABB qualifying titles and are fresh off making the ABB National Final in 2024.

“We don’t really ring into the rivalry thing too much, but everyone is certainly competitive and wants to win,” Mee added.

“Outside of the water, we are all great friends and it’s all a bit of fun.

“To get to an ABB National Final for the first time would be a huge effort. It’s a goal of ours to win more than anything, but to get a top three spot and head to

Burleigh Heads would be incredible.”

The winning club will take home $1,500, second receives $1,000 and third place will be rewarded $500.
