THE first GromSearch event for Australia’s best junior surfers took place at Jan Juc over the weekend.

The September 21-23 event was broken into under 12, 14 and 16 age groups for males and females.

The winners of the Under 16 classification were Marlon Harrison from Coolangatta (QLD) and Nyxie Ryan from Lennox Head (NSW).

Ryan was exceptionally consistent, registering five consecutive scores over six in the final to help her secure the lead.

Harrison scored a 15.40 to secure victory and was elated with the result.

“I’m super stoked to have won today,” Harrison said.

“I did pretty well in the 14 and Under division last year, it’s a great confidence boost to see that my surfing stands up in the 16’s as well.”

The level of competition was high, with Milli Allport (Long Jetty, NSW) and Mike Clayton-Brown (Collete, NSW) presented with the Rip Curl Outstanding Performance awards for their excellent surfing throughout the entire event.

In the Under 14 category Ava Henderson from Christchurch (New Zealand) and Matt Boyle from Currumbin (NSW) were the winners.

The Under 12 winners were Quincy Symonds from Tweed Heads (NSW) and Jake Feher from Matraville (NSW).
