Local lifesavers earn state selection
SEVERAL lifesavers from the Surf Coast and Bellarine were recently named in the Victorian team for the Surf Life Saving Australia 2020 Interstates Championships.
Jan Juc SLSC has three of their own lifesavers involved, with Drew Green, Kyalla Happ and Henry Van Til all earning selection.
Happ has competed in Victoria’s Youth side before but will be competing in the Open category for the first time”.
She said Jan Juc SLSC has helped her progression.
“They’ve always been supportive of everyone who wants to try and make the state team, and they’ve always provided us with everything we need to achieve our goals.”
Saxon Beale from Anglesea SLSC has also made the state team, while from Ocean Grove SLSC’s Jesse Coulson, Tim Hannan and Mackenzie Hooper were selected as well.
Torquay SLSC also saw Grace Harris, Archie Vernon and Josh Patterson selected to represent Victoria.
It will be Harris’ sixth time competing at the Interstates Championships.
She said she enjoys the experience of representing the state with people from nearby clubs.
“It’s good to be in a team with people you’re usually racing against.”
The championships will be held at Alexandra Headland in Queensland tomorrow (Friday, January 24).
