Local surfers to compete in Rip Curl GromSearch

THE region’s best shortboard surfers will join more than 200 of their fellow competitors at Phillip Island for next week’s Rip Curl GromSearch event.

The October 1 to October 5 event at Cape Woolamai will bring together top surfers from all over the country in the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 age groups.

It is one of five marquee junior surfing events to be held across Australia as part of a national junior series and will provide surfers with the opportunity to gain valuable ranking points in their quest for a spot on the Irukandjis team heading to the ISA World Junior Surfing Titles.

Local surfer slated to appear in the event include current U/18 state champion Max Bassett (Barwon Heads), Dune Pruvot (Jan Juc), Cedar Davie (Jan Juc) and Jarvis Barrow (Torquay).

 

Current U/18 state champion Max Bassett will be competing at the event.

 

Surfing Victoria chief executive officer Adam Robertson said the Victoria was privileged to be hosting a GromSearch round at Phillip Island.

“The level of talent across the country is improving year on year and it will be incredible to watch the action over the week.

“Not only will the event showcase incredible surfing, it is a key part of our junior surfing pathway and gives our young aspiring athletes a chance to earn valuable points in

their home state.”

The winners of all six age divisions at Phillip Island will qualify for the Rip Curl GromSearch National
