Local surfing trio dominate state titles
A SURF Coast trio have taken home top honours at the Victorian Junior Surfing Titles on the Mornington Peninsula.
Jack Lindsay was victorious in the Under 18 Boys division, Estella Carbonelli won the Under 14 Girls, and Teddy Robertson put on a masterclass in the Under 14 Boys.
More than 70 competitors took to the water across the two-days of fierce competition at Gunnamatta Beach.
In the Under 18 Boys final, it was fellow Torquay surfer Jarvis Barrow who started off strong, sliding the fins off the roof of the wave for a 5.67-point ride.
Linsday responded shortly after with some clean forehand snaps to post a 5.00 ride.
With time running down, Lindsay shifted gears and dropped into a bombing right hander, unleashing two huge backhand turns.
The judges loved the commitment and awarded him with a whopping 9.17 ride out of a possible ten points.
Barrow fought back with a 7.83, however he was unable to chase the lead down.
Third went to Rye Cicero (Sandy Point), while Jerry Kelly (Barwon Heads) finished fourth.
“It was good to get some quality waves on the second day and all the boys were surfing well,” Lindsay said.
“Feels good to take out my first state round. I’ve come second a few times, so it feels good to get the chocolates!”

The Under 14 Girls division was strong taken out by Estella Carbonelli.
Carbonelli attacked the best and biggest waves throughout the heat to score a 12.17 total.
Over in the Under 14 Boys, Teddy Robertson put on a masterclass, posting a commanding 17.50 total.
Within the first five minutes, Robertson picked off a long running left hander and put together three powerful turns.
He followed it up with another quality left-hander, attacking a huge incoming section and riding out clean.
Robertson scored a near-perfect 9.50 ride for his efforts, putting the lead well beyond reach for his fellow competitors.
Other divisional winners at the event included Sara Hickson (Rye), Rose Holland (Dromana) and George Everist (Bittern).
