THE state’s top longboard surfers will descend on Point Impossible for the Victorian Old Mal and Logger Titles next weekend.

More than 30 competitors are locked in for the 16th edition of the Southern Ocean Union of Longboarders event.

Surfers will compete on both pre-1968 old malibu surfboards and newer model single fins over the 9ft cut off limit.

Four divisions will be exhibited on the day including Over 45 Old Mal, Under 45 Old Mal, Men’s Logger and Women’s Logger.

SOUL Longboarders president Lachy Fletcher said excitement was high heading into the day.

“It’s super awesome to have the event coming around again. It’s a great opportunity for us to show off all the amazing surfers from across our state.

“This year’s event will be in honour of renowned Victorian surfboard shaper George Rice, so we hope to see plenty of people pulling out their old Rice boards, amongst others.

“Entries have been coming in thick and fast, and we are looking forward to a great event.”
