Lorne SLSC enjoys solid ASRL Open

LIFE Saving Victoria’s top eight surf boat crews represented the state at the Australian Surf Rowers League (ASRL) Open at Bulli, New South Wales earlier this month with a cohort of Surf Coasters in attendance.

Representatives from the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) were again among the best crews in array of age groups, but narrowly missed out on a medal during the meet.

Victorian surf boat team manager Chris Campbell (Anglesea SLSC) stated how proud he was of his athletes.

“Our surf boat state team proudly represented Victoria on the national stage at Bulli earlier this month,” he said.

“Whilst disappointed to narrowly miss out on bringing home a medal, the teams comradery and spirit was a clear standout on the beach.

“Special thanks to our outstanding team captains Chantal Guziak and Andrew Downie from Lorne SLSC, who led by example and drove such a strong team focus in the lead up, and during the interstates.

“Thanks also to LSV and VSRL for their strong support, and we look forward to doing the state proud again next year. Go Vics!”

Lorne’s efforts resulted in the top four results for Victoria.

Lorne Edge managed fourth in the Open Female Final, Lorne Prawns finished fifth in the Reserve Female Final, Lorne Badgers finished sixth in the Under 19 Female Final, and Lorne Chops snagged a top 8 finish in the Open Male bracket.

The final VSRL event of the season will be at Ocean Grove from tomorrow (Saturday, February 25) until Sunday, February 26 for the Victorian Senior Championships.
