FORMER Wallington/Ocean Grove local Lucy McEvoy has landed in new colours for the coming AFLW season after signing a long-term deal with the Sydney Swans.

Originally pick two in the 2019 draft, McEvoy has made the move across to the Harbour City from the Carlton Blues where she played 33 games, debuting in Round 1, 2020.

The 21-year-old said she was thrilled to be starting a new chapter in the red and white.

“I’m very excited. It’s an amazing opportunity to be playing for the Sydney Swans and getting up to a new state, new environment, new club, new people, all of it.

“After speaking to the Swans a couple of times, the program they have put together is really well run and the people they have in the program are really passionate about it.”

Sydney Swans executive general manager of AFLW Kate Mahony said the club was rapt to have the former Geelong Falcons captain on board for season 2023.

“Lucy is an experienced AFLW player with great leadership capabilities.

“Her ability and knowledge of playing at this elite level will be invaluable for our young group.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Lucy to Sydney.”

The Sydney Swans are one of the newest teams in the AFLW and will be looking to get off the bottom of the table in 2023 after a winless campaign in their debut season.
