Morris and Mills claim 2023 Geelong Gift
SPRINTERS Saye Morris and Georgia Mills reigned supreme at this year’s Geelong Gift, taking out Saturday’s headline races at one of the Victorian Athletics League’s (VAL) marquee events.
More than 300 runners descended on the Geelong Waterfront for the return of the annual Geelong Gift.
Morris and Mills smashed their respective Geelong Gift Finals to claim Geelong’s top running prize at Steampacket Gardens over the weekend against the state’s best runners.
Morris completed his final run in 10.587 seconds, just beating out Jackson Bennett’s time of 10.714.
Mills earned a narrow win with a time of 11.685 ahead of podium finishers Grace Carter (11.756) and Ruby Crisp (11.868).
Other major winners included Vic Sharma (11.225) in the Masters 100m, Cooper Sherman (7.736) in the Men’s 70m, Sonya Pollard (8.430) in the Women’s 70m, Gary Blake (36.825) in the Men’s 300m, Keely Henderson (40.180) in the Women’s 300m, and Terrence Kavanagh-da (1.58.140) in the Open 800m.
The Geelong Gift is the fifth stop on the VAL’s Season Calendar.
The athletes’ next stop will be at the Warrnambool Gift on Saturday, December 2.
The season’s final event, the Stawell Gift, will run between March 30 to April 1 next year.
