Portarlington Golf Club – June 21, 2018

June 20, 2018 BY

HOW many of us take advantage of the benefits of using the list of reciprocal clubs that we have at out club? There may be members out there who do not realise that such an arrangement exists, and also those who don’t consider using this attractive benefit when travelling or playing golf elsewhere. Generally, we get to use the courses on our list for half the normal green fees, and can usually participate in their respective competitions by prior arrangement. We have several clubs along the Murray River in this category, such as Tocumwal, Thurgoona (near Albury), Murray Downs (near Swan Hill), Corowra, Cobram/Barooga, Mildura and Barham, which are generally beautiful courses. Why not give it a go if you haven’t done so before – see reception for a letter of introduction if you get the opportunity.

Tuesday June 12, Men’s Stableford Multiplier
Down on numbers for this event, with 113 men putting their golf and their maths to the test. Well done to John Hill and Trung Truong, who put together a score of 74 to win the day on a c/b from Ian Flanders and Jim Wilson. John Ekberg and Mark Anderson were next with 71, pipping Tim Benham and John Cranston on a c/b. Best individual score was by David Lappin with 43 points, inspired verbally but not score-wise by his partner Stephen Steele! The NTPs were scored by Tony Unwin, Leighton Hamblin and Ross Gibb, and the ProPin went to John Ekberg.

Wednesday June 13: Ladies 4BBB Par
A field of 64 ladies braved the cold, windy conditions in this teams event, with the winners on a sensational 10 up being Di Snell and Chris Cunningham. Only one shot back were Marg Mascoll and Donna Utt, with Judy Fox and Megan Siotos a further shot behind in 3rd place. The pinshots were collected by Marian Keskinen and Sue Plummer, and the ProPins by Lynne Kirby (0-25) and Joy McGregor (26-45)

Saturday June 16, Men’s and Ladies’ Par
A terrible weather forecast kept many away from their regular game, but 122 men and 16 ladies took the punt and survived the tough but better than predicted conditions. Micky McNeill did particularly well, managing +5 to score Trophy of the Day and B Grade from a +1 by Gary Edwards. Best in A Grade was Vello Pukk with +2, one shot clear of Elijah Wall, Bob Svorinich topped the C Graders with +4 from Mark Daisley’s +2, and William Adams score of 0 won the D Grade voucher from Rodney Allen’s -1. The NTPs were won by Joel Launer, Vello Pukk and Chris McCulloch and Neale Walter scored the ProPin. Our best lady was Marg Mascoll with +2, followed by Kath Howes with -2, the pinshots went to Kath and Olivia Bowman and Lou Blomley captured the ProPin cash.
