Portarlington Golf Club – June 7, 2018

June 6, 2018 BY

WE HAVE neglected to report on the Men’s Veterans Pennant team, who played their season throughout the months of March and April. They played five games against other Geelong and District clubs, and although they only scored one win, they halved one and lost the others very narrowly. We had 10 men represent the club, and expect to field two teams in 2019.

Tuesday May 29, Men’s Stableford
A blustery day didn’t deter 126 men from taking part, and Kas Saldukas topped all-comers with 40 points to also win D Grade from Bill Reid’s 37. C Grade was headed by Gordon Atkins with 38 by a point from Colin Warren, Don McKenzie’s 39 was best B Grade score from Gavan Pitcher’s 37, and Richard West’s 37 led the A Graders by a point from Max Edmanson. Whilst Max denied reigning Club Champ Matt Salter of his regular ProPin collect, he did manage to get two NTPs, with the other going to Josh Williams.

Wednesday May 30, Ladies Stroke – June Medal
We had 58 ladies competing for the monthly medal, with another 6 playing the optional stableford format. It was Beth Peterson’s day out to capture the mrdal with a nett 75, and also A Grade from Liz Brown on a c/b. Top B Grader was Chris Trezise with 78 ahead of Chris Cunningham by a shot, and Pat Worsley got the C Grade voucher with a 78 on a c/b from Geraldine Collison. Beth also won the only NTP award, Jenny Champion (0-25) and Heather Spry (26-45) won the ProPins, Marilyn Mooney was best putter with 29 and Jill Barker had the best gross score with 91.

Saturday June 2, Men’s and Ladies’ Stroke and June Medals
A brisk but calm, cloudless day greeted 164 men and 28 ladies to contest the June Monthly medal. A nett score of 70 by 6 men sat at the top of the list for most of the day until suddenly Steve Miller came in late in the day with a nett 67 to collect the medal, and top Robert Smith to win D Grade with a 73. Cameron Place had a 70 to win C Grade by a shot from Peter Tippett, Gary Edwards and Hugh Orton both had 70’s to head the B Graders, and Terry Powell and Craig Plummer also scored 70’s to top the A Graders. Phil Stephens, Robbie White and Max Boyle scored the NTPs, and John Leeding cashed in on the ProPin. The ladies Saturday Medal was won by Angela Kiely with a score of 72 nett. One behind her were Marg Mascoll and Karen Thomas, both of whom also collected the NTP’s, Joy Francis got the ProPin and Sue Hazell was the best putter with 29.
