TOMORROW (Friday, January 10) will see a record number of competitors take part in the Powercor Lorne Mountain to Surf.

About 2,300 people will set off on the eight-kilometre run.

The route takes participants up the hills of Lorne, into the forest behind the town, back down to the coast and along to the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club clubhouse.

Lorne SLSC runs both the Mountain to Surf and Pier to Pub, which takes place the following day – Saturday, January 11.

The club’s marketing manager Mike Napolitano said the club’s volunteers put in an enormous amount of work.

“We have over 700 volunteers that give their time on Friday and Saturday to support the event and make sure that all of our competitors and their family and friends, and visitors to Lorne have the best possible experience they can.”

The money raised from the two events goes back to Lorne SLSC.

These funds go towards a range of things that help make the beach safer such as facilities, equipment and training.

This year will see people who have run 10 or more races receive the Mountain Goat Award. The race itself is now in its 36th year.

The first group of runners will head off at 8.30am.
