September 26, 2018 BY

Anglesea Bowling Club’s Twilight Social League, sponsored by Great Ocean Properties, returns next month.

ANGLESEA Bowling Club’s Twilight Social League sponsored by Great Ocean Properties is open for entries from beginners to seasoned lawn bowlers in this game of skill that suits all fitness levels.

This is the fifth year of operation and the fun, social competition is growing and this year players will enjoy the new clubrooms and bar facilities.

Already several players from the previous years have got the “bowls bug” and become full club members and are enjoying participation in the Anglesea Club’s Pennant Bowls Teams.

The Twilight League is an entertaining game of two bowl triples open to everyone with scoring penalties for club members to give everyone the chance to win the Champions Trophies.

Lawn Bowls is a fun sport open to all ages and sporting abilities which can be traced back to the 13th Century in Britain.

The world’s oldest surviving bowling green is the Southampton Old Bowling Green, which was first used in 1299.

The Anglesea Bowling Club Twilight Social League, sponsored by Great Ocean Properties, with complimentary bar snacks, raffles, and drinks from the bar all adding to the light-hearted atmosphere, is a far cry from the origins of the game, although the fundamentals of bowling a biased bowl close to a small white or yellow ball stay the same.

In addition to the club’s normal raffle with seven or more prizes, each week a representative from Great Ocean Properties will conduct a charity auction with all proceeds from the auction going to National Drought Relief.

The season is for eight weeks including finals with one game of 12 ends each week beginning on October 10.

Play starts at 6pm and finishes at about 7.30pm with presentations, complimentary food and raffles.

Teams consist of three to five players with interchange allowed at the completion of each end.

With a fast format, loud music, special nights like a fancy-dress competition, this competition is a great way to meet people, get some exercise, improve your skills and enjoy socialising with people of all ages’ shapes and sizes.

The cost is $30 per team per week regardless of the number of players with complimentary snacks available before and after play in the clubrooms.

You don’t need to be a champion just a willingness to have some fun, some flat soled shoes or bare feet.

You don’t even need bowls the club will supply them for you.

Team and single entries are welcome just email the club at [email protected] or phone Leon 0410 493 246 or Gerard 0409 972 891 by Friday October 7.
