Royal Geelong Yacht Club’s Women’s Regatta held in June
ROYAL Geelong Yacht Club’s Women In Sailing group held their annual three-day regatta in June.
Sailing on a Columbia 22-footer named James, which had been lent to the club, it’s the second time the vessel has been utilised by the local crew, consisting of Jan Jones, Avril Sellers, Michelle Doncaer and Cathy Pak-poy (who came down for the race from Sydney).
Day one saw extremely light winds, with a comment made that “hopefully the god’s will be kinder tomorrow!”.
On day two, three races were held in variegated winds.
Day three’s first race started in 10-15 knots of wind, increasing in the afternoon to gusts of 25- 30 knots and a northerly, which saw boats retiring and even some spinnakers broken.
The Women in Sailing crew enjoyed two good results on day three with a thoroughly enjoyable weekend had by all, catching up to some old friends and meeting some new ones.
