ST MARY’S and Grovedale have had to wait until the middle of June to meet but can’t wait to get stuck into their AFL Barwon female football Division 1 top-of-the-table clash tomorrow (Saturday, June 21).

The Saints are unbeaten and Grovedale have only dropped one game to Geelong Ammos so the scene is set for a ripper at St Mary’s Anthony Costa Oval at 10am.

“We’re coming up against really good opposition and I know a lot of the girls at Grovy having coached some of them at Geelong as well,” coach Alf Della Monica said.

“So we’ve got a healthy respect for them, they’re reigning premiers for a reason.

“They’re well drilled and it’s another big test for us, and it’s a test for us to apply the things that we’ve been learning at training.”

The Saints beat Anglesea by 104 points last week and their best were Tahley Stinchcombe, Bella Gilham and Jaimie Castledine, who bagged four majors.

The ladder-leader’s biggest test came against fourth-placed Thomson in Round 7 who they beat by 21 points.

In other matches, Lara welcome third-ranked Ammos tonight before Barwon Heads host Torquay tomorrow.

Anglesea and St Joseph’s will face-off in the Sunday game at Ellimatta Reserve at 12 noon while Thomson have the bye.
